Frequently Asked Questions in Omaha, NE

The Heritage at Legacy

Frequently Asked Questions

While these programs share many similarities, each one is adapted to serve our residents at varying levels of assistance. Independent living is ideal for seniors who are capable of managing most of their daily activities but seek a maintenance-free lifestyle with access to social activities, dining options, and amenities. These include dining, transportation services, and the peace of mind of knowing someone is available should the need arise.
Assisted living provides additional support for seniors who need help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, medication management, and mobility. We offer a balance of independence and assistance, ensuring residents receive the care they need while still maintaining as much autonomy as possible. Those with minor cognitive impairment can receive the personalized support they need within our assisted living program through Snapshots.
Memory care is specifically designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other forms of cognitive impairment. It features secure environments, specialized programs, and a trained team to provide compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of our residents. The Heritage at Legacy proudly engages our residents through our unique Portraits® programming, derived from Montessori principles of dementia care.

As a temporary solution that offers the full scope of our services and amenities, respite care is particularly beneficial for those recovering from surgery or a hospital stay. We are here to be a safe and supportive environment where you or your loved one can continue to recover in comfort.
Respite care can also be a lifeline when your regular caregiver is unavailable. We proactively communicate to identify your needs and the best ways to accommodate them so you can enjoy the same quality of care you’d expect at home from the moment you enter our community.

We strive to create a welcoming and homelike atmosphere for all our residents, but we understand that the transition process is not always easy. Moving into a communal environment is a new experience for many of our residents, so we make every effort to help everyone we serve feel at home. Each of our residents is welcomed by a resident ambassador to help them become acquainted with their neighbors, social activities, and the many other enriching opportunities we provide. Cats and dogs are a common sight at The Heritage at Legacy, and we are proud to be a pet-friendly community that firmly believes furry friends are part of the family.

There are various options available to help finance senior living at The Heritage at Legacy. Public programs are commonly known but have specific eligibility requirements based on physical and financial criteria.
Insurance policies are a common source of financial support for seniors in assisted living. For example, long-term care insurance (LTCI) is specifically designed to reimburse policyholders for care costs, whether in an assisted living community, nursing home, or at home. There are also benefits for veterans and former U.S. military members through the Veterans Affairs that can help subsidize some of the self-funding expenses of assisted living. Retirement accounts, savings, and the sale of one’s primary residence are common methods of covering remaining costs.
The Heritage at Legacy requires two years of private pay prior to accepting public supported funding for independent and assisted living. The Heritage at Legacy does not accept public supported funding for memory care. We do accept most long-term care insurance and veterans’ benefits. Our Senior Living Funding Guide is a great resource to understand the many options available. Our team would be happy to review options with you.
