Frequently Asked Questions

Prior to moving into our community, our health services team will meet with you and your loved one in your loved one’s home. During this meeting, our care associate will observe your loved one performing some of their daily routine activities in their home surroundings. You will discuss their preferences, needs, and goals to determine how much support they will need from us to go about their daily routines. Based upon this assessment, we will develop an individualized service plan and assign a Level of Care for your loved one. We have several escalating Levels of Care in both Assisted Living and Memory Care to accommodate your loved one in our community as long as possible.

At The Heritage at College View, we aim our assisted living services toward seniors who require help to complete certain activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, transportation, and more. Before moving in, our team will meet with your loved one to understand their needs so we can create a thorough service and care plan with an assigned Level of Care.

Memory care services are intended to assist individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. We train our associates in a Montessori-style method of dementia care that gives your loved one the power of independence and decision-making while reducing any challenges and frustrations. All memory care apartment homes are comfortable, accessible, and secure, so you can have peace of mind knowing your loved one is in a safe space.

As the support needs of your loved one change over time, you may need to consider transitioning them from assisted living into memory care. Read our blog for advice on navigating this process.

Moving a loved one, whether your parent, relative, or friend, into assisted living is never an easy decision, and it can be a challenging choice to make for everyone involved. Ultimately, you must consider what is best for your loved one and what is best for you as a caregiver. If supporting your loved one is hampering your personal and professional livelihood, or you are finding it becoming unsafe for them to live alone, seeking a professional care team that can be there for them 24/7 while still enjoying an independent apartment lifestyle might be the answer. But moving into assisted living never means saying goodbye, and we encourage you to visit whenever you want!

Your loved one may have preconceived notions about what moving into assisted living means for their independence as freethinking adults. If you need assistance navigating this conversation to reach a decision everyone feels good about, read our guide on deciding between home and senior living, which features pros and cons, cost comparisons, and testimonials from our residents.

As a living arrangement and health care solution rolled into one package, there’s no denying that senior living is a significant investment. How much it costs depends on what services your loved one needs, the exact size and layout of their apartment home, and what city and state you reside in.

While the initial price can seem costly, the overall value of senior living is well worth it. Once you consider the bundled costs of living at home with receiving external medical care and ongoing personal care support, it becomes clear that senior living is, on average, more cost-effective than at-home nursing and health services. With one payment, your loved one receives a secure and comfortable home, immediate access to quality health care, and a social environment to nourish their spirit.

One way to fund senior living is through insurance – either a long term care policy or some life insurance policies might have coverage or benefits. The Heritage at College View mandates two years of private pay before accepting any public-supported funding for assisted living. We do not accept public funding for memory care services. That being said, we accept veteran’s benefits and a majority of long-term care insurance. Browse our senior living funding guide to understand what options are available to you, and let us know if you have any questions.
